Review of Ibotta
About a week ago, a few other bloggers were mentioning this new free app Ibotta with which you could earn cash rewards just from using their shopping app on your iPhone or Android device. As I’m always looking for ways to save money, I thought I’d give it a try.
Guess what? I was skeptical at first, but so far, I really like it! It was free to join, simple to use, and I already earned money!
Here’s how it happens:
You download the app onto your Apple or Android device (for the link to download, go here). You can sign up using email or through Facebook. Once you enter your information (email, password), you can tour the app to find out how to use it. In the main section of the app are products with offers you can choose to view and earn. For some offers, you take a one-question survey, answer a poll, or share a status to Facebook.
Once you choose a few products, you go shopping. You purchase the items, take a photo of the receipt using the app, scan the barcodes, and voila! You have earned some cash rebates back! When Ibotta confirms the receipt and purchases, the money you earned back can be transferred to your PayPal account (note: $5.00 needs to be earned before it can be transferred).
It’s really that simple. Currently, there are over 35 stores where you can earn the cash back rewards.
When I went shopping yesterday, I went to Walmart for the few things I needed. From just those few things, I earned back $3.25, plus an additional $5.00 just for trying the app! I also saved money on those items by using coupons, giving me a total savings of $5.25. While that doesn’t sound like much, it was a good start to me for only those four items.
Today I was able to transfer the $8.25 in my Ibotta account to my PayPal account. So simple!
