Handmade Hair Accessories
Don’t you just love to put cute little hair accessories in your little girl’s hair? My daughter has a whole Caboodle full of little hair clips, hair ties, and headbands she loves to use!
Even cuter are handmade hair accessories. Not only are they adorable, they’re often much better quality and hold up better than store made ones. Plus, when they’re handmade, you know they’re made with love!
My good friend Michelle started making handmade hair accessories and asked if my daughter would like to try one out. Of course she did!
About Mamma Tutu
Michelle is a mama to two (get it?). She’s a SAHM who makes these hair accessories for her own two adorable little girls along with also selling them in her Etsy shop.
I asked her why she started her small business, and this is what she said:
I started this because my daughter was diagnosed with Plagiocephaly and needed to wear a cranial band (aka helmet). Being the person that I am, my first reaction was that I needed to bedazzle it! I looked online at the “skins” that are offered, but nothing struck me as something that I wanted my daughter wearing every day, so I set out to make accessories that could be interchanged. I ended up getting compliments on the accessories, and was asked on many occasions if I sold them, or if they could be worn as headbands. This still wasn’t really enough to push me to open a little shop.
I kept making my daughter’s headbands and accessories, and almost forgot the concept of selling them, completely. Then it all changed. I was approached and asked to help a special type of photographer who works in the neonatal intensive care unit. I won’t go into details, because this can be a very delicate topic. It IS one that hits close to home for me, although, at the same time, not to the extent of the photographer’s job. I ended up cranking out a bunch of headbands for this photographer, and realized that is what I wanted to do. I felt I was being called to help in a bigger way…even if it was just in headbands! The problem? Materials come at a cost, and I wasn’t bringing any revenue in to help pay for that, which is when I decided to open this shop. My goal is to create enough business where I can match every headband sold to every headband donated.
Handmade Hair Accessories by Mamma Tutu
Michelle sent us a side cluster flower headband. She used two of my little girl’s favorite colors, pink and purple, along with a creamy white. The side cluster came on a purple hard headband.
It is just super adorable, and well made. (Trust me: toddler of terror had it in his hands a few times now and it’s still in one piece!).
The side cluster can also be ordered on an elastic headband, clip, or velcro, depending on what type of hair accessory you’d like.
