Can you believe we’ve been back to school for more than a month now? How to do you reinforce at home what your kids learn at school, besides with homework? One easy way to review is to use the LeapPad Platinum!
My family is definitely a LeapFrog product family. Even before becoming a LeapFrog Mom Ambassador, we had so many LeapFrog products, from simple letter recognition toys to both the LeapPad 1 and the LeapPad 2! And now, I’m really excited to bring you my LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum Review!
The LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum is certainly an upgrade from the previous LeapPad tablets we’ve owned. It just feels like a real tablet, and responds so much better than the previous versions.
One of my favorite things? The rechargeable battery! If you owned the previous LeapPad versions, you know how fast you went through AA batteries when your kids played on the tablets.
[bctt tweet=”Whoa! The @LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum is an awesome learning tablet for #kids! #LeapBacktoSchool “]
LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum Features:
- 7″ hi-res multi-touch screen
- fast processor
- Just for Me Learning Technology
- Wi-Fi with kid-safe web browser
- shatter-safe screen
- wrap-around bumper
- two cameras and video recorders
- 5+ hours of rechargeable battery
- peer-to-peer connectivity
- 8 GB memory
- 10 apps
- 1 free app download
- 1,000 + games available for purchase and download
- two colors: green or purple
Bonus feature! The games from LeapPad 1 and 2 work in Platinum! So if you’re upgrading, you will already have some fun games to play!
We only encountered two issues at first: the tip of the stylus was easily removed by my toddler (it’s just a soft tip), and the downloads took a long time to download via Wi-Fi. Thankfully, LeapFrog came to our rescue and sent us a new stylus and suggested that I plug the LeapPad into the computer for faster downloading from LeapFrog Connect.
Available immediately is Pet Pad Party, where kids can take care of their pets, and Photo Fun Ultra, where kids can edit their photos. There are also a few utility apps for kids to play with as soon as the tablet is set up.
One of the features I mentioned above was the Wi-Fi capability with kid-safe web browser. The kids can view kid-appropriate videos, prescreened by experts. There are a lot of learning videos, but there are also a lot of fun videos, like holiday light shows that my kids like to watch.
LeapFrog Imagicards
Also different from the previous LeapPads is the ability to use LeapFrog Imagicards. LeapFrog Imagicards are interactive learning cards that bring to life your child’s favorite characters as they play learning games.
To use Imagicards, your child aims the LeapPad Platinum’s camera at the card and scans the photo to unlock features in the games. The character, number, or letter comes to life on the screen, right before your child’s eyes.
What’s nice is that each collection of cards comes in their own tin for easy storage. There is a play mat included with each set so that cards can be sorted, making game play easier.
For this review, we received three different sets of Imagicards: PawPatrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Letter Factory Carnival.
My kids were most excited about Paw Patrol and the Ninja Turtles, both of which help to review math concepts. PawPatrol is for the younger crowd, ages 3-5, teaching number recognition, counting, shapes, patterns, addition, and subtraction, all of which are skills needed in preschool and Kindergarten. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Imagicards are for ages 5-8, reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and number composition.
The Letter Factory Carnival Imagicards are for ages 4-7 and focus on literacy skills. They review the 26 letters of the alphabet, phonics, spelling, consonants, word sounds, and sight words. Even though they are geared towards preschool and kindergarten, these cards were great to review with my 2 year old, even if I had to play along with him.
See it in action:
We’re really happy with this tablet, and so grateful to LeapPad for sending it to us to review!

Hi. You posted a pic of the stylus broken. Is it just foam on the inside? My daughter swallowed the tip today. Just want to check what it was made of when your toddler pulled it apart.
Marissa says
Hi Vikki,
From what I remembered, it was just a small piece of foam without anything hard inside. Hope that helps!
Vikki says
That is great thankyou Marissa. We seemed to think that too. Have tried to get in touch with leapfrog but nothing yet.

Leapfrog has merged with V-Tech. I don’t know who the contact is there anymore, unfortunately.
