Does peel and stick wallpaper work in bathrooms? YES! Check out this master bathroom makeover featuring peel and stick wallpaper.
Master Bathroom Makeover
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that in late 2021 we moved to a new home. Right away, we cleaned everything and painted every room…every room that is except for my master bathroom.
Even the kids’ bathroom got a makeover! Before, it was poorly wallpapered and just blah. After, it’s an under the sea adventure!
Check out more photos on my Instagram.
The master bathroom in our bedroom was already wallpapered and looked clean enough, so we decided to leave it alone for a future makeover.
But ugh, it just wasn’t my style, you know? Old flowery wallpaper, seams pasted shut with icky, yellowed glue (which I later was told was liquid cement….), peeling in various places. Old hardware that had faded.
It definitely needed a bathroom makeover!
I had considered just taking down the wallpaper like I did in the kids’ bathroom and painting it, but meh.
Thanks to Love vs. Design though, I got to FINALLY do the makeover with their peel and stick wallpaper!
This post is sponsored by Love vs Design, who provided me with peel and stick wallpaper to do this makeover.
What is Peel and Stick Wallpaper?
Peel and stick wallpaper is wallpaper that is just peeled from a backing and stuck up on a wall. Pretty simple, right?
Peel and stick wallpaper is designed to be used in a variety of spaces, and they are also designed to be removed safely from walls, preventing damage that traditional wallpaper might cause when removed.
There are different types of textures, and many, many different patterns in all different colors to choose from.
Love vs Design has woven textured, and smooth vinyl peel and stick wallpaper, which is perfect for bathrooms.
How Does Peel and Stick Wallpaper Work?
It’s actually fairly simple to use peel and stick wallpaper. You simply peel the backing off of the wallpaper and smooth it onto the wall.
The preparation before you use it may take some time though. You want to be very certain that the wallpaper will stick to your walls and stay there.
When applying peel and stick wallpaper, it’s important to:
- make sure your walls are as smooth as possible
- clean your walls to get rid of dust
- patch any holes and smooth out
- measure as accurately as possible to make sure you order enough
- wait at least 30 days after painting to ensure that the wallpaper sticks well to the wall
- clean your walls again with a rubbing alcohol and water solution to make sure the wallpaper sticks well
How Long Does Peel and Stick Wallpaper Last?
Wondering how long peel and stick wallpaper lasts? As long as you properly clean and prepare the surface of the wall (or even ceiling), the peel and stick wallpaper should last as long as you want it to last.
It’s also important to note that getting the right texture is important, as only certain ones will protect against humidity, like smooth vinyl.
Does Peel and Stick Wallpaper Work in Bathrooms?
Yes! Peel and stick wallpaper can work in a bathroom. Vinyl peel and stick works best in humid environments as it can repel moisture.
TIP: You may want to consider sealing any edges of the paper that might come in direct contact with water or moisture. If water gets behind the paper, it may cause it to lose stickiness and peel off the wall.
Of course, if you are applying peel and stick wallpaper in a half bath (like a guest bathroom), you might get away with a woven or other texture as there is less moisture to worry about, but I would ask the company about that first.
Update: It’s 2023 and the peel and stick in the bathroom is still up and amazing!
Bathroom Makeover Before and After
I really can’t tell you how excited I was about this! It was originally going to be a surprise for my husband, but of course on the one day I thought he’d be at work all day he decided to come home early. Oh well! He was happy to help with installing the wallpaper.

Huge difference, right?! I LOVE how the peel and stick wallpaper gave this space a more modern look!
This wall paper is the watercolor herringbone wallpaper in ash and eggshell.
I also love that I was able to put some plants in this space. (I have plants EVERYWHERE in this house!) The little pots are just so cute, and how about those hanging planters?
I used Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2X Ultra Cover in Flat Black (affiliate link) to make the old gold mirror match the original black hardware, and I also used it for the original soap holder and toothbrush holder. It worked so well!

Love vs. Design Peel and Stick Wallpaper Review
This whole project wouldn’t have happened without Love vs. Design wallpaper.
First, you visit their website and browse the styles and designs.
Once you find a design that you like, you can customize the colors to match what you have in mind for your space.
Next, you can order samples. With the samples, you can not only see the pattern and color in person, you can also peel off the back and stick it to your wall to see if it will work in your space (in fact, it’s highly recommended!).

When you’re satisfied with the pattern and colors, you can then order your wallpaper. You’ll have to measure the space you want to cover, and their system will tell you how much you’ll need.
While you’re waiting for your wallpaper to arrive (may take a week), you can prepare the space.
Since the last time the bathroom was given a makeover was in the early 90s, it needed quite a bit of work. Thankfully, the old, outdated wallpaper peeled off easily for the most part, but I needed to sand down the liquid cement from the seams, patch some holes, sand down the walls, and vacuum everything with the shop vac multiple times before I was ready to do anything with the wallpaper.
But once we put up the wallpaper, everything came together so fast.

We are in LOVE with the final result. Now it feels like a modern space for us. I’m so happy that it’s finally done!
